This piece was made for an exhibition organised by the British Association for Modern Mosaic (BAMM) with the theme of ‘Between the Lines’. The exhibition was due to be held in the Scottish Borders, which has a long history of textiles and weaving. After attending a weaving workshop I wanted to explore how to translate ideas from one craft (weaving) to another (mosaics). I created a series of undulating strips which I used to mosaic on. Each strip was decorated with slate, along with a strip of coloured glass ‘woven’ into it. The strips were then woven together and mounted on a board. A layer of mesh coated in pigmented adhesive has been stuck to the board, along with small pieces of leftover glass to give extra texture to the background.
