100 days of Nature Project
This collection of mosaics was created as part of an international online challenge, where the aim was to create a small piece of art on a regular basis. While I could not commit to creating these mosaics on a daily basis, I made several a week over a period of several months.
Each of the mosaics in this collection was inspired by a photograph from nature, using the observed patterns and textures to develop a range of designs. The original images used as inspiration can be seen alongside their corresponding mosaic.
This challenge was a good opportunity to explore different ideas and techniques within mosaic. For example, some mosaics feature backgrounds created with a self-levelling compound. Others incorporate glass pieces that I made by heating and shaping the molten glass.
I decided to not buy anything new for making these mosaics, challenging myself to use materials I already had in my studio. This encouraged me to use materials left over from previous projects, as well as materials that had been sitting unused on my shelves for far too long!
Framed mosaics measure 10.5cm x 13cm.
I have created a series of videos that show some of these mosaics being created, which you can view via my YouTube Channel.
Some of these mosaics are still available for sale. For more details please visit my online store.
